Had a C-Section? Here’s Why a Pelvic Physio Can Still Be a Game-Changer 💛

A common question I hear is: “Do I really need pelvic floor physio if I had a Cesarean birth?” And the answer is a big, confident YES.

Even though pelvic physios are best known for pelvic floor care, a C-section birth still puts your body through a lot — pregnancy itself does plenty of the work.

Here’s why pelvic physio can be incredibly helpful after a Cesarean:

🤰 Pregnancy Still Affects Your Pelvic Floor

Even without a vaginal birth, your pelvic floor spent months supporting the growing weight of your uterus. That constant pressure can stretch and weaken those muscles — which is why checking pelvic floor tone and strengthpostpartum is still important.

A pelvic floor that’s functioning well helps with bladder control, core support, and overall comfort — all things you deserve after birth.

✂️ C-Section Scars Need Love Too

A Cesarean is major abdominal surgery. As your incision heals, scar tissue and fascial adhesions can form beneath the surface — sometimes restricting movement in the abdomen and pelvis.

These restrictions can contribute to things like:

  • Abdominal weakness

  • Digestive issues

  • Lower back pain

  • Discomfort during sex

Scar care and gentle manual therapy can help restore mobility and comfort — even if everything looks healed on the outside.

🚽 Your Bladder Might Still Be a Bit Confused

During pregnancy, your bladder gets squished downward by the uterus (rude, honestly). For some people, it doesn’t automatically move back into its ideal position after birth.

That can show up as:

  • Frequent trips to the bathroom

  • Urgency

  • Leaking

With manual therapy, we can often help guide the bladder back into a better position — and I’ve seen many women notice big improvements in these symptoms.

When Should You Go?

I usually recommend having your abdomen, C-section scar, bladder, and pelvic floor checked around 8–10 weeks postpartum.

Think of it as a postpartum check-in for you — not just the baby.

Because you may have had a C-section…but your body still deserves care, support, and healing 💛
