Pelvic physiotherapy to support pelvic organ prolapse

Pelvic organ prolapse (POP) happens when the muscles and tissues that support the pelvic organs become stretched or weakened. This can be caused by things like pregnancy and childbirth, getting older, repeated heavy lifting, chronic coughing or constipation, and hormonal changes after menopause. When this support weakens, the organs are no longer held firmly in place and can shift downward, leading to the symptoms of prolapse.

The physiotherapy treatment for prolapse includes manual therapy on the pelvic floor, exercises to increase strength and coordination of the pelvic floor, and education of techniques to reduce downward pressure on your pelvic organs.
